Silence Leaks exhibition opening reception at Satellite at TAP Center for Creativity

Silence Leaks takes silence as something with heft and asks what happens when it starts to move. A leak begins quietly, seeps through cracks, stains what it touches, and by the time you can see it a boundary has already been crossed. Three graduate practices sit side by side in that seepage.

Behnaz Fatemi shows Palimpsest. She's an Iranian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist working in performance, installation, drawing and sound, circling diaspora, embodied knowledge and archival silencing. Masha Kouznetsova shows moscow recordings. Her work brings together analogue sound processes, performance, sculpture and printmaking, with a focus on salvaged materials and site-responsive installations. Brittany/Andrew Forrest brings Rewinding Silent Echoes: Regret, surrealist work exploring haunted perceptions and suppressed apparitions.

Fatemi curated the exhibition, which is a mobile project of SATELLiTE Project Space, the partnership between Fanshawe College and Western University. A performance and short Q&A with all three artists follows later in the run, held in the gallery.

Expect residue, echo, distortion and fragment.
