Traditional Irish music takes over the German Canadian Club for a night put together by Forest City Irish Fest, the crew behind London's free Irish festival in Wortley Village. The night has fiddle, flute, uilleann pipes and guitar.
Gerry O'Connor headlines on fiddle. He's from Dundalk, Co. Louth, and was taught by his mother. He is known for a fluid, lyrical style influenced by Sligo fiddling and a pulsing rhythm. Seán Gavin is the son of Co. Clare fiddler Mick Gavin. He plays flute and uilleann pipes, and in 2016 he became the first musician born outside Ireland to win the Seán Ó Riada gold medal. Guitarist Don Penzien rounds out the lineup.
The night doubles as a fundraiser. Proceeds go to Forest City Irish Fest, the free festival that brings world-class artists to London.
The German Canadian Club has been a German cultural hub in London since 1933.
