Normal people, consider yourselves warned. The Weirdo Market and Weirdo Show, a market of unconventional creators with a sideshow of fire and swords on the side, are taking over Dough EV at 621 Dundas Street and Honey Dip, this Saturday, October 24.
It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., which makes it the rare sideshow you can catch before your afternoon nap.
The Old East Village BIA is the one ringing the carnival bell. "Who says you have to be normal to have a good time?" the BIA wrote, promising that "things are about to get a little strange, wonderfully bizarre and downright entertaining."
The market half gathers 18 unconventional creators showing off their talents, odd treasures and imaginative creations. Admission to the market is free, which leaves more in your pocket for whatever gloriously cursed little treasure decides to follow you home.
Then there's the show. It's hosted by Dong Delonge, with fire-breathing from Rebecca Nekrotic Horne, sword-swallowing from ValkyrieHjörbrimul and live music from NovemberWitchBand.
(A friendly tip from us: give the first two a little elbow room. Your eyebrows will thank you.)
"Add some shocking entertainment, and you've got an afternoon that's anything but ordinary," the BIA wrote. Hard to argue.
The building is a fitting big top. Downstairs is Dough EV, the donut shop and cafe in the old home of The Root Cellar, the restaurant that closed in 2020. Owner Tara Davies was a nurse in Vancouver before she traded scrubs for sprinkles, and she called the place "our love letter to this city."
Upstairs, Honey Dip Bar moved into the former Taproot venue and opened in June 2025 as a room for local music and art shows. "Our ultimate goal is just to be a gathering space for the arts," said booker Robin Henry.
A market full of weirdos and a sword down somebody's throat feels like exactly that goal, served with a donut.
The BIA suggests bringing "your curiosity, your sense of adventure and maybe that one friend who's always been a little different. You know the one."
Can't think of anyone? "Well… we have some news for you!" the BIA added.
Leave normal at home. It'll keep.
